It was always an inevitability, my guy. You can't fight the Amogus.
Playing through all of the maps a second time, aiming to give some feedback for each and every submission. Here goes nothin!
In no particular order:
Above and Below by Jedly:
Uh, wow. Taking the theme very literally, and it's absolutely a blast to play. The map is super open and you can mess around at your own pace. It starts you off with low ammo and only a few weapons, which makes gathering your arsenal very rewarding. Little too cramped for that boss, though, zoinks! Overall a very enjoyable map, and it makes me wonder if it'd play just as well if it wasn't flipped on its head!
Purgatorium by DuskyAI:
Holy mackeral, this map goes in HARD, no hand-holding at all! It gives you just enough ammo to scrape by near the beginning, before going all in and pitting you against a helluva lotta ghouls and cultists and other monster baddies. Sick dynamic sequences, but at first it's hard to figure out where to go until you try every door and break everything open. It pays off well in the end, though it's super brutal if you aren't quick on your feet! Episode 1 on all kinds of 'roids, good visceral fun!
The Pit by Swamp Monster:
Short but sweet! Satisfying to leap around on the jump pads and spam the riveter and mortar. The mortar's my favorite weapon in Dusk, so I especially had fun using it to lob grenades onto unsuspecting lone cultists. The gore quarry (er, a gourry??) was cool to look at, with a giant tower in the middle that looked oh so foreboding! The map itself is nice to look at, it brings fond memories of playing through Episode 1. My only gripe is that it was too short, but given the time constraint it's quick and enjoyable.
Heaven and Hell by Vriska:
Another short and sweet map! It starts off like your average shoot-em-up frenzy map, pitting you against some baddies with some nasty tools to compensate. After going through a portal that's very reminiscent of a Quake slipgate, things take a twist! Now it's all hellish, and then the name makes so much more sense! Very surprising map, super subversive!
Disregard by Q Dude:
The name says it all, absolutely disregarding Dusk Dude's capabilities for speed and movement! The map's short, but for a first map it's honestly a breath of fresh air! Claustrophobic spaces and hordes of enemies you have to deal with all at once, it can get hectic if you don't pay attention. Little too easy to breeze through, it gets excessive with health and ammo, but it was still good for a first map. Quick, easy, but I say it's memorable! Not too shabby, Q Dude!
Manors of the Flesh by MegapiemanPHD:
Woahhhh. You're stuck in a dark, gritty and rat-infested mansion, and it's definitely pretty fleshy! Reminds me a bit of Blood, and it's teeming with atmosphere. The map architecture is wonderful to look at, you really do feel like you're in some old, ugly manor crawling with cultist goons and other devilish beings. Super fun to play through and it has some nice replay value! Wew, man, keep up the good work! Can't believe I managed to get scared of the Horror yet again! GG.
Deep Dive into Sin by Aqua:
Okay, I made this map, so I'm not gonna pat myself on the back lol. Had a lot of fun making the map, I think mixing Ultrakill and Dusk together makes a great combination! I tried to squeeze as much as I could out of the time constraint, so I went all out in every aspect. Little disappointed in the end, I could've done a better job on the final boss arena and the last major city arena, but there's always time for updated releases in the future. Definitely a great learning experience about managing scope, ambitions and juggling burnout. Can't wait for the next jam!
All of the maps here are definitely worth playing. ******* love this community so much, keep it up you mad lads. Here's hoping we get some more goodies in the SDK by the time we have another jam! So much potential for this to be a really fun event every few months, excited for the future!
Yo that was fun! Again struggled with ammo and health, but the ammo thing almost added to the difficulty which made for an interesting playthrough. The architecture is so damn cool, you should do more cool stuff with lighting, the shadows looked so sick in some places! The fights felt a little too rough or not rough enough, so it's good to experiment with all the enemy types and throw together some real nasty skirmishes! It's alright to rough up the player, Give Me The Pain Train!! Regardless of a few mishaps with ammo and health this is a great map.
Nice work again lol, keep it up!
Are you implying it's NOT needed?
still got some of that quality tho :))))
Most likely an issue with the SDK itself. If it's freezing and saying "X has stopped responding" I'd give it a fair minute to load. If it's just straight-up crashing, I'm not sure how I can remedy that aside from using the "-force-d3d11" launch option before booting up the game. This is assuming you're using Steam, though. I'd try that if all else fails!
Really sick map, I like it! Should've put some Fork Maidens in the strip club next to the poles or something lol.
Had a little issue further along with health, you could sprinkle a few smaller health packs which would help a ton.
Nice enemy placement and map, it looks and plays fantastically! Hope to keep seeing cool maps from you!
Yeah it's a super weird issue, most likely because of the latest SDK update. Hopefully in the next hotfix it'll resolve the performance issues! I can definitely confirm, however, that it ran smooth as butter before the most recent update. Fingers crossed!
It's ugly as sin!
haha vacuum goes vrrrrrrr
I definitely intend to! Releasing a third map sometime in June, caught up with other stuff at the moment; thanks a lot quarantine...
I'm overhauling that entire section, don't worry! It'll come with the update adding music!
Don't shoot! I'm with the science team!
